I don’t know… Google is pretty much pulling a Microsoft here. Except, I guess Google’s marketing is very effective because I am ok with Google monopolizing all my info. Perhaps it is because I feel Google is more transparent and less evil than Microsoft… then again, once it gets as big as Microsoft, who knows right? It can get as evil.
As a marketer, I guess the truth is I encourage this behavior because it is amazing for market research. I believe in advertising but I hate spam/interruption.
Let’s be real, we live in a capitalist, which means, a consumer culture. I want the right ads to target me and Google is doing the right job at it. I don’t want to be bombarded by irrelevant ads but I do want to have the right ads displayed to me.
So I guess the short answer is I am ok with Google having access to all of my information and monopolizing my life because I am ok with anybody doing that as long as it serves me as a consumer.

Well, I also hate spam, the same way I don’t love dishwasher soap ads on TV, but that doesn’t mean I would like FOX to know how much time I spend watching the adult channels or how much money I spent in the fund raisers with Oprah.
Even though I agree it helps, and it takes advertising to its point, which is being informative and useful, I totally dislike anyone to have all my life in a SQL table. Let them guess, don’t give them their job done.

Am I the only one afraid of the Google monopoly about life? From the point of view of marketing, and from Google, all this is amazingly cool. From the point of view of an individual, it’s really scary that one person can live his whole “computer” life without ever leaving the “Google’s Earth”: OS, office applications, mail, sales sites, videos, maps, translation, payments, workgruops, readers, news, books, pictures, webmaster application….
I’m starting to be scared of how important is Google in our lifes.
